Abstract
Purpose: We aimed to compare the effectiveness of Korean Infant and Child Development Test (KICDT) with Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale (PRES) and Sequenced Language Scale for Infant (SELSI)-in the assessment of children with language developmental delay.

Methods: Three hundred sixteen children with suspected language developmental delay, who visited the Department of Pediatrics in Dae-Dong Hospital from January 2011 to February 2013 were enrolled. They were examined using KICDT, SELSI and PRES. SPSS Version 19.0 (SPSS Inc. USA) for Windows was used to compare the average ages and analyze the correlations between the variables.

Results: Except in a few age groups, no significant differences were found between the children¡¯s average language development age measured by KICDT and the average combined language development age, receptive language development age, and expressive language development age measured by PRES and SELSI. In particular, the average language development age measured by KICDT did not vary significantly from the average combined language development age of either PRES or SELSI. The language development age measured by KICDT showed a statistically
significant correlation with the combined language development age, receptive language development age, and expressive language development age measured by PRES and SELSI across all age groups, with the exception of a few(P<0.01).

Conclusions: Significant correlations between the children¡¯s language development age measured by KICDT and language development age measured by PRES and SELSI suggest that KICDT has a high validity as a language development screening test.
